Mahjong Solitaire is a classic single-player tile matching puzzle built on the traditional Chinese Mahjong tile set. Unlike the four-player Mahjong game, Solitaire pits you against a beautifully stacked board of 144 tiles arranged in the iconic turtle pattern. Your goal is to remove every tile by matching identical free pairs.
A tile is considered free when there is no tile resting on top of it and either its left or right side is open. Select a free tile, then click any other matching free tile to remove the pair. Flowers match any other flower, and seasons match any other season — every other tile must match exactly. The game ends when you clear the board (a win) or when no more valid pairs remain (a deadlock).
Use the Hint button to find a valid pair when you're stuck, or use Shuffle to reshuffle the remaining tiles. The game runs entirely in your browser, works on mobile, and tracks your best completion time locally. No installs, no accounts — just open it and play.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I match tiles in Mahjong Solitaire?
Click a free tile to select it, then click another free tile with the same face to remove the pair. A tile is free when nothing sits on top of it and at least one of its left or right sides is open.
What if I run out of moves?
If no matching free pair is left, the game shows a No-Moves dialog. You can press Shuffle to reshuffle the remaining tiles into a new arrangement, or start a brand-new game.
Do flowers and seasons only match identical tiles?
No. All four flower tiles match each other, and all four season tiles match each other. This mirrors the standard Mahjong Solitaire rules.
